Sixth Annual Dentistry From the Heart event provided dental care for adults in local communities.
On Saturday, September 28, Dr. David Ahearn and the staff of Southcoast Smiles hosted Seekonk's annual Dentistry From The Heart event – providing complimentary dental care to more than 165 residents.
The line began to form as early as the night before, with some people camping out in order to receive dental treatment.
Every year, Dr. Ahearn and his team of dentists, volunteers and sponsors provide patients with a complimentary extraction, filling or cleaning. This was the 6th annual event for Dr. Ahearn, who has donated more than $360,000 in dental care to more than 700 residents.
"My staff and I look forward to this event every year, because we know there are many people out there who simply can't afford dental care at this time," said Dr. Ahearn. "It's such a great feeling to be able to give back to our community in this way."
In addition to his own staff, Dr. Ahearn was joined by Drs. Banki and Paletta, from MSL Oral & Facial Surgery and the staff and students from Diman Regional Vocational Technical High School's Dental Assistant Program, all of whom donated their time to provide the free care.
Dentistry From The Heart is a registered non-profit organization that provides free dental work for people in need. In the past twelve years, Dentistry From The Heart events have contributed more than $8 million in free dentistry and helped more than 45,000 patients across the country. Fifth Annual Dentistry From the Heart
On Saturday, September 22, we hosted our Fifth Annual Dentistry From the Heart, a day in which we give back to our community by providing free cleanings, fillings and extractions. It’s hard to believe that this was our fifth year hosting the event! We look forward to this event every year, because we know how difficult it is for some people to obtain quality dental care.
Every year, Dentistry From The Heart has gotten bigger and we have been able to help more people in need, which is a blessing we are truly thankful for. We were shocked when we arrived at the office at 6:30 AM to find patients in sleeping bags, waiting in line for dental care.
The preparation and hard work that goes into this event is always well worth it at the end of the day. We started treating patients at 8 AM and literally didn’t stop for a minute until the end of the day. We are so happy to say that with the help of over 40 volunteers, including oral surgeons Mo Banki and Frank Paletta and the entire staff from the Diman Regional Technical High School Dental Assisting program, we were able to provide over $65,000 in free care to 150 residents of our community. Having the opportunity to impact hundreds of lives in such a positive way is truly humbling. The people we met and the stories they shared with us have inspired us to continue to do this event every year.
We extend a sincere thank you to all of our staff and the volunteers who willingly gave their time in order to provide care to those in need. We’d also like to thank all of you, as you continue to support our efforts in hosting this event. We know that by having this event, we eliminate a full day of Saturday appointments for you, which we know can be hard to come by. We truly appreciate your patience and understanding.
“Drive for Jersey”
When we heard that Macomber Elementary School in Westport was collecting items for victims of Hurricane Sandy, there was no question that we wanted to participate. The “Drive For Jersey” resulted in over 300 boxes of supplies for 150 families in the Manahawkin, New Jersey area and we were proud to donate toothbrushes and toothpaste for this worthwhile cause (Click on image for full article).
